DfE funding and benchmarking
Our goal is to embed learning in real-life and community situations, but we do appreciate that this can be expensive and a strain on the family budget. Depending on student or family circumstance, there may be financial support available:
Pupil Premium Grant
Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) is additional funding given to schools to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils in Reception – Year 11.
The amount given to schools is based on the number of students receiving Free School Meals (FSM) in the past 6 years.
Funds are not paid out to individual students, but are used either collectively and / or individually on resources to raise the attainment of disadvantaged students.
The School Pupil Premium statement is available on this website.
What the PE and sport premium is and what we use it for
Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils they have in Year 1 to 6. If schools not have set year groups (for example, in some special schools), pupils aged 5 to 10 attract the funding.
Schools should use the PE and sport premium funding to:
-
support all children and young people to live healthy, active lives
-
make participation in PE and school sport easier
-
make sure all children can achieve and thrive through increased physical activity and sport, no matter their background or ability
-
improve children’s health, wellbeing, personal development and academic attainment
-
embed the foundations of positive and enjoyable participation in regular physical activity.
How we used our funding and the impact
For the year 2024 – 2025, we used our funding to:
-
Pay for Dancing with Charlotte
-
Pay for primary classes who access Colchester Combat Karate
-
Contribute towards taking primary learners swimming through paying for the bus and extra staff members
-
Contribute towards taking our learners to sports competitions
-
Contribute towards our new trampolines
Impact
The impact for 2024 – 2025 was:
Learners were able to access regular physical activity both in school and in the wider community. At Edith Borthwick we want to develop a love of physical activity and an understanding of the benefit of exercise on mental and physical health. Our learners often use physical activity as part of The Zone of Regulation, which develops strategies for learners to maintain good levels of emotional regulation. The new trampolines are a big part of this.
How we will use our funding and the aims
For the year 2025 – 2026, we intend to use our funding to:
-
Pay for Dancing with Charlotte
-
Pay for primary classes to access Colchester Combat Karate
-
Contribute towards taking primary learners swimming through paying for the bus and extra staff members
-
Contribute towards taking our learners to sports competitions
-
Purchase new sports equipment
Aims for 2025 – 2026
Our aim for this year is to impact student’s well-being and health so that they are confident and keen participants in a range of physical activities, not only during the time they are in school, but also as they transition to adulthood. We aim to offer them as many experiences as possible, so that sporting and physical activities become part of their daily lives, which will also increase their health, social skills and engagement with their local community.Through our new PE co-ordinator, we would like to increase the variety of sports equipment that is available to classes.
Please see the Government website below for information regarding the PE and Sport Premium Grant, along with a school statement on how we allocate the funding at The Edith Borthwick School: UK Government website - PE and sport premium for primary schools.
