Friends of Edith Borthwick is a registered charity. Known as Friends or FOEBS (pronounced feebs) we raise funds for the benefit of all children within the school and support the school sense of community. We are a small team of volunteer parents, carers and staff. Over recent years funds raised have been used to subsidise school trips, purchase a new mini bus, play equipment and support various curriculum and social activities. We fundraise ourselves, seek grants and sponsorship. We also organise fun events at school for families, learners and staff.
The Friends meet on a regular basis during term time at the school and everyone is welcome to attend, whether they are staff, friends or family members. The more help the committee has, the more we can do to raise valuable funds for the students. Even if you are unable to attend the meetings, help at events is always gratefully received. If you feel you would either like to join the committee, find out more about what we do or even make suggestions for fund raising ideas please contact email@example.com
The Friends committee would like to thank all who support us and encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way they can to support our fantastic school and amazing learners.

Staff Christmas Wishes 2021
Staff Christmas Wishes 2021Thank you so much to everyone who donated and took part in our Sensory Snow Experience this week! The FOEBS elves have been busy editing and sending out the photographs, the last batch should be going out today. Due to Covid safety measures needing to be changed at the last minute, our team and photographer had to step back and so the amazing staff team did everything for us to make the event a fun experience for the learners and take fab photos for their families. Huge thank you to the staff who set up, ran the event, supported the learners to attend and engage in whatever ways that suited them and did all the tidying up afterwards... on top of their already crazy workload!! FOEBS enormously appreciates your dedication to enable this to still go ahead for the children and young people. Once we’ve finished sharing the photos we’ll count the pennies and let you know how much you raised for school to spend next year! Over the holidays we shall also make a montage video of lots of the photos (where permission has been given) so everyone can share the learners’ enjoyment. This will also serve as a ‘video social story’ next year to help those who struggled.
Merry Christmas to Our Supporters
Sending a huge thank you to all of our fantastic supporters over this last year! They have donated an enormous amount in money and assistance which has made a massive difference to what FOEBS has been able to deliver for our school. The pandemic has meant FOEBS has had to change how we fundraise and there are so many worthwhile causes so we are enormously grateful when companies, individuals and grant providers choose to support us. FOEBS will continue building relationships over the coming year and we already have some exciting plans ahead, watch this space in 2022! Our
Owen's Marvellous Map - Social Services Unveiling
This week Owen from Class U8 and his proud Mum Vicky attended an unveiling of a new canvas he created! It was a map commissioned by his Social Work team for their offices reception area to give visitors, especially children something fascinating to look at. This will undoubtedly help calm and distract from difficult situations and waiting around. His Social Worker Vicki said "Owen is a very talented young man who has amazed us all with his art work. We were very grateful that he agreed to draw a map specifically for our reception in Goodman House in Harlow. The map was unveiled on the 1st December 2021 and this was attended by senior managers and many social workers as well as Owen himself and members of his family. His teachers and class friends attended via a live link. He was also presented with an Essex ‘Oscar’ for his outstanding artwork and a certificate of achievement. We hope the hundreds of visitors to Goodman House every year will enjoy seeing his map and Owen will feel very proud of what he has achieved." Owen was presented with his Essex Oscar and certificate by with Michelle Hayden-Pepper who is the Director of Local Delivery for West Essex. FOEBS, the SLG and his class mates joined in with the cheering and clapping and Owen was accompanied by his super proud family. Congratulations Owen!

Animal Therapy & Care Project - Thank You Video
Animal Therapy & Care - Thank You VideoClick the globe to view - Huge enormous gigantic thank yous from FOEBS and the school for all your support in the development of the Animal Therapy and Care Area! It was a joy to collaborate with our friends at Great Dunmow Round Table in phase one during the summer holiday to create the storage shed to expand what could be done in the main cabin. Michelle then reorganised both cabin and shed to make them functional and beautiful. Ducks and a new home were added! Lots of you joined in with our name the ducks competition to get the ball rolling. Then the big fundraiser followed in phase three to purchase the super dooper portable power pack so light, heating and even music would make the cabin cosy and comfortable all year round! You smashed it with a final generous donation to push us past the £1200 target. We asked Gary (aka Andrew Marr) to interview Michelle and reveal a final surprise, assisted by Daniel from IT (aka Steven Spielberg) to record events! This project is now complete but we have a feeling the story isn't over as thanks to Hannah's marathon run Michelle has a nest egg to develop the area even further next year!! We are so grateful to Michelle for what she achieves with our wonderful learners so it has been a genuine pleasure to help her enhance what she can offer them!

Friends of Edith Borthwick School AGM
It is a legal requirement for all registered charities to hold an Annual General Meeting (AGM). Ours is taking place at 12.30 via Zoom on Wednesday November 10th. Every member of our school community is automatically a member of Friends and therefore invited to attend. Learners included!
Every child and young person in our school benefits from our efforts.
It is a brief meeting where we celebrate our successes and make plans for the year ahead, part of this includes an election or re-election of Trustees, Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and Secretary. It is very important that everyone has the opportunity to cast a vote if they wish. If you would like to become involved with our charity in any way that suits you, sign up to our mailing list or perhaps stand for election we welcome your input.
Our charity can only support our amazing school with your help!
